description Steindachner's moray Overview
Steindachner's moray (Gymnothorax steindachneri) is a marine moray eel in the family Muraenidae. Like other morays, it has an elongated body and continuous dorsal and anal fins and spends much of its time in holes or crevices, emerging to feed. Its common and scientific names commemorate Franz Steindachner, an Austrian ichthyologist known for his work in fish taxonomy. The species is chiefly of interest in marine biology and reef ecology.
