Transparent Burnet Moth

description Transparent Burnet Moth Overview

The transparent burnet is a day-flying European moth in the family Zygaenidae and the genus Zygaena. It is distinguished from many related burnet moths by areas of reduced scaling on the forewings, which create pale or partly translucent patches alongside darker pigmentation. Like other burnets, it has a compact body and clubbed antennae, and it is generally encountered in open, flower-rich habitats where adults take nectar and the larvae use particular herbaceous host plants.
