Uppsalaåsen is a major glacial esker in central Sweden and an important landscape feature of Uppsala County. It was formed from sand and gravel deposited by meltwater flowing through or beneath the Scandinavian ice sheet during its retreat. The ridge provided elevated, relatively well-drained ground on which parts of Uppsala developed, and its permeable deposits also make eskers important sources and storage areas for groundwater.
