Vellore Fort is a sixteenth-century stone fortress in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India, built during the period of the Vijayanagara Empire. Its defenses include massive granite walls, bastions, a wide moat, and a substantial entrance structure. The compound also contains historic religious and civic buildings, including the Jalakanteswarar Temple. In July 1806, Indian soldiers stationed there rebelled against the British in the Vellore Mutiny, an important uprising that preceded the larger revolt of 1857.
