The Virginian tiger moth, Spilosoma virginica, is a tiger moth in the family Erebidae found widely across North America. Adults are predominantly white, often with scattered black spots, and have a conspicuously furry thorax. Its caterpillar, commonly called the yellow woolly bear or yellow bear, varies from pale yellow to brown or black and feeds on many kinds of low-growing plants, making the species familiar in gardens, fields, and other open habitats.
