Yarrabubba

description Yarrabubba Overview

Yarrabubba is a deeply eroded meteorite impact structure in Western Australia's Yilgarn Craton. Radiometric dating places the impact at 2,229 +/- 5 million years ago, in the Palaeoproterozoic era. The original crater is not preserved as a complete surface feature, so the structure is identified through impact-deformed rocks, impact melt, and geophysical evidence. Its age places it within Earth's early impact record and makes it a reference site for research into the planet's ancient geology.
