description Brent Overview
Brent is a meteorite impact structure in Ontario's Algonquin Park. It is about 3.8 km in diameter and was first identified in 1951 from aerial photographs taken during a Canadian government survey. Geological studies describe it as a heavily eroded or 'fossil' crater cut into Precambrian gneiss and partly filled by younger Ordovician sediments and impact breccia. Because the surface rim is poorly defined, the site is chiefly recognized through its subsurface geology, drilling records, and impact-related rocks, making it a research locality for planetary geologists.
