Museo Nacional de Antropología

The Aztec Sun Stone is one of the Museo Nacional de Antropologia's most famous objects. It is a monumental Mexica stone carving, often linked to calendrical and cosmological imagery from pre-Hispanic central Mexico.

The museum covers many cultures of Mexico, including Mexica, Maya, Olmec, Teotihuacan, Zapotec, and Mixtec material. Its galleries make it one of the most important places to understand pre-Hispanic Mesoamerica.

The current museum opened in 1964 in Chapultepec Park in Mexico City. Its central courtyard and large umbrella-like concrete canopy are major features of the building's modern Mexican design.

It includes both archaeology and ethnography, but many visitors come first for the archaeological collections. The ground-floor galleries are especially known for pre-Hispanic objects, while other sections address Indigenous cultures and traditions in Mexico.
