Temple of Karnak

The temple complex was primarily dedicated to the Theban triad, with the chief deity being the god Amun-Ra. It was the most important religious site in ancient Egypt for over a millennium.

The Great Hypostyle Hall is one of the most famous monuments within Karnak, featuring 134 massive stone columns arranged in 16 rows. The central 12 columns stand an astonishing 69 feet tall.

The vast temple complex is located at the ancient site of Thebes, near the modern city of Luxor in Egypt. It sits directly on the east bank of the Nile River.

The complex was not built by a single pharaoh but developed continuously over more than 1,500 years. Notable builders include pharaohs like Ramesses II, Hatshepsut, and Thutmose III, who all added pylons, halls, and obelisks.
