description African Piculet Overview
The African Piculet is a small woodpecker in the family Picidae, currently classified by many authorities as Verreauxia africana; older treatments use Sasia africana. It occurs in humid forest habitats across western and central Africa, including areas around the Gulf of Guinea and the Congo Basin. The species is the only member of the genus Verreauxia in classifications that recognize that genus, and its IUCN conservation assessment is Least Concern.
