Angola Basin

description Angola Basin Overview

The Angola Basin is a deep ocean basin in the eastern South Atlantic, lying along the passive continental margin off Angola and neighboring parts of west-central Africa. Its seafloor includes thick sedimentary deposits, and the basin is connected to the Congo deep-sea fan, which transports material from the continent into the Atlantic; the Walvis Ridge separates it from the Cape Basin farther south. The surrounding offshore margin is also an important setting for petroleum geology because it contains oil and gas systems.
