description Campion Moth Overview
The Campion moth, Sideridis rivularis, is a noctuid moth distributed across Europe and widely recorded in Britain. Adults have brown to purplish-brown forewings, a wingspan of about 27 to 30 millimeters, and two forewing stigmata that tend to join at the base, features that help distinguish it from the similar Lychnis moth. Its caterpillars feed inside the seed capsules of campions in the genus Silene and of catchflies in Lychnis, and adults mainly fly in May and June in Britain.
