description Charles Whittaker Overview

Charles Evans Whittaker (1901–1973) was an Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court from 1957 to 1962, nominated by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Raised on a Missouri farm and previously a federal district judge and Eighth Circuit appellate judge, he struggled with the Court's workload and resigned after about five years, one of the shortest tenures in the Court's history.
