The common minke whale (Balaenoptera acutorostrata) is a small species of baleen whale belonging to the rorqual family, found throughout the Northern Hemisphere in the North Atlantic and North Pacific Oceans. Reaching lengths of up to 10 meters, it is recognized by its dark gray back, white belly, and a distinctive white band on the pectoral flippers. Despite being the smallest rorqual, it has been a primary target of modern commercial whaling operations. It preys on small schooling fish and zooplankton.
