Hamada du Draa

The Hamada du Draa is a rocky desert plateau in southern Morocco. It borders the more fertile valleys associated with the Draa River.

The Hamada du Draa is mainly a barren rocky plateau, or hamada, rather than a field of high sand dunes. Its hard, elevated terrain contrasts with the greener river valleys nearby.

Hamada describes a desert surface dominated by exposed rock and gravel. In the Hamada du Draa, that terrain forms a broad plateau beside the Draa valley system.

Its main contrast is between an extensive, barren plateau and the fertile valleys of the Draa River. That boundary makes the landscape visibly different from the irrigated settlements and agriculture farther along the valley.
