description Nubian Desert Overview
The Nubian Desert is an arid region in northeastern Sudan, extending between the Nile River and the Red Sea. Characterized by rocky plateaus, sand dunes, and wadis, it spans roughly 400,000 square kilometers. The desert contains significant archaeological remnants from the ancient Kingdom of Kush, notably the pyramids at Meroe. It experiences extreme temperatures and very little annual rainfall, making permanent habitation sparse outside of the river oases.
