description I. K. Gujral Overview

Inder Kumar Gujral was an Indian diplomat and politician who served as foreign minister in 1989 to 1990 and again in 1996 to 1997, before serving as prime minister from 1997 to 1998. He is associated with the Gujral Doctrine, an approach under which India would offer certain smaller South Asian neighbors cooperation without demanding strict reciprocity. His career also included diplomatic service as India's ambassador to the Soviet Union.
