Jomon period

description Jomon period Overview

The Jomon period is a prehistoric period in the history of Japan, conventionally dated from roughly 14,000 BCE to about 300 BCE, although boundaries vary by classification. Jomon communities relied on hunting, fishing, gathering, and other forms of local resource use rather than agriculture as the primary basis of life. They are especially known for producing cord-marked pottery, among the earliest pottery traditions known in the world. The period is studied through archaeological sites, settlements, tools, ceramics, and burial remains.
