Michael Davis, an American neuroscientist at Emory University, is famous for his foundational research on the amygdala's role in fear conditioning. His work mapped how the brain processes and responds to perceived threats, fundamentally advancing the study of emotional memory.

Davis demonstrated that the drug D-cycloserine can significantly enhance the extinction of conditioned fear in the brain. This discovery revolutionized clinical psychology by providing a pharmacological tool to accelerate the effectiveness of exposure therapy for PTSD and phobias.
