description Monjon Overview

The monjon is a small species of marsupial belonging to the rock-wallaby family, recognized as the smallest member of its genus. Endemic to Australia, it is restricted to the sandstone environments of the Kimberley region in Western Australia and several neighboring offshore islands. Described scientifically in 1978, this nocturnal macropod navigates rocky cliffs and outcrops where it forages for grasses and other vegetation.
