description Spotted Cuscus Overview

The common spotted cuscus, Spilocuscus maculatus, is a largely arboreal marsupial native to New Guinea and nearby islands, with populations also occurring in the Cape York region of northeastern Australia. It has a robust body, grasping feet, and a prehensile tail suited to movement through forest vegetation. Adult males commonly develop a pale coat marked with brown or reddish spots, while females and younger animals are usually more uniformly colored.
