description Northern Checkerspot Overview

The Northern Checkerspot, Chlosyne palla, is a nymphalid butterfly of western North America, ranging from southern British Columbia and Alberta south to California, Utah, and Colorado. Adults are associated with foothills and mountain areas and have checkered wings that vary from orange and reddish brown to much darker forms. Females can occur in several color patterns, and the larvae feed on asters, goldenrods, and rabbitbrush.
