Seruvila Stupa

description Seruvila Stupa Overview

Seruvila Stupa, formally associated with Seruwila Mangala Raja Maha Vihara, is an ancient Buddhist relic monument in Sri Lanka's Trincomalee District. According to Sri Lankan historical tradition, King Kavantissa built it in the second century BCE to enshrine the Lalata Dhatu, the Buddha's frontal bone relic. The temple complex was rediscovered in the early twentieth century and restored as a place of worship. It remains a pilgrimage site for Sri Lankan Buddhists and is also studied as part of the island's early Buddhist heritage.
