description Spheniscus muizoni Overview
Spheniscus muizoni is an extinct banded penguin from the latest middle to earliest late Miocene of Peru. It is known from a partial postcranial skeleton and associated bones found at Cerro la Bruja in the Pisco Formation, and its anatomy places it within Spheniscus, the genus that includes several living banded penguins. Its 11 to 13 million-year-old record was described as the oldest known fossil record of that genus, and its estimated body size was similar to living Jackass and Magellanic penguins, according to the original [research paper](https://www.app.pan.pl/article/item/app52-285.html).
