help Tragedy Looper FAQ
How does a loop work in Tragedy Looper?
The Protagonists replay the same short timeline after a tragedy or loss, retaining the knowledge gained during the failed attempt. The Mastermind knows the hidden script and uses action cards to manipulate characters and locations each day.
What are the Protagonists trying to deduce?
They must identify hidden roles, determine which tragedy is being triggered, and stop the Mastermind’s plan before their final loop ends. Information comes from character behavior, accumulated goodwill, intrigue, paranoia, and the Mastermind’s card choices.
Can Tragedy Looper be played with only two people?
Yes, one person can control the Mastermind and the other can manage all three Protagonist actions. The design supports up to four participants, with additional players dividing control of the Protagonists.
Does the Mastermind need to create a mystery before every game?
No, published scripts specify the hidden roles, incidents, loop count, and loss conditions. The 2011 Japanese design also received an English edition from Z-Man Games with introductory and advanced script sets.
