Abralia astrosticta

description Abralia astrosticta Overview

Abralia astrosticta is a small oceanic enoploteuthid squid in the family Enoploteuthidae, described by Berry in 1909 from the Hawaiian Islands. It has prominent ventral photophores, light-producing organs characteristic of many members of this family, and records include waters around Hawaii, Australia, French Polynesia, Japan, New Zealand, and the Philippines. The species is therefore associated with the tropical and subtropical Indo-Pacific rather than the Atlantic.
