Auyántepui

Auyántepui is a massive sandstone monolith located within Canaima National Park in the Gran Sabana region of southeastern Venezuela. It sits in a remote, highly inaccessible jungle area. The region is globally renowned for its dramatic geological features and unique ecosystems.

Angel Falls, the world's highest uninterrupted waterfall, plunges from the edge of Auyántepui into the jungle below. The falls drop from a height of 979 meters and are named after Jimmie Angel, an aviator who flew over the tepui in the 1930s. It is the most prominent feature on the massive plateau.

It stands as the largest tepui globally, boasting a massive surface area of roughly 700 square kilometers. Despite its massive size, its ecosystem is highly fractured, featuring bizarre rock formations and massive crevices. The plateau supports unique, endemic species that exist nowhere else on Earth.

While it is technically possible to hike to the top, the trek is incredibly physically demanding and requires specialized guides due to the sheer cliff faces and complex, maze-like terrain. Many explorers historically perished trying to navigate the bogs and crevices on the plateau. Most visitors choose to view the monolith via scenic flyovers.
