Dawmat Al-Jandal

The mosque is commonly associated with Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab's era in the mid-7th century, though some sources date parts of the structure later. Its minaret is often cited as one of the oldest surviving minarets in the Islamic world.

Marid Castle is a ruined hilltop fortress overlooking the oasis, counted among the oldest fortifications in Arabia. Its walls have watched over the settlement since pre-Islamic times and it remains the site's most prominent landmark.

It lies in Saudi Arabia's Al-Jawf region in the country's northwest, about an hour's drive from the regional capital Sakaka. Al-Jawf is also known for its olive groves and nearby archaeological sites.

The settlement is widely identified with 'Adummatu,' which appears in Assyrian annals in connection with Qedarite Arab rulers of the first millennium BCE. This makes it one of the longest-attested settlements in northern Arabia.
