Where does the name Ultima Esperanza come from?
The province and its main sound take their name from Seno Ultima Esperanza, or Last Hope Sound, reportedly named by the 16th-century Spanish explorer Juan Ladrillero during his 1550s search for a passage. The name stuck to the whole province.
