description Fort Morgan Overview

Fort Morgan is a nineteenth-century masonry fort at the mouth of Mobile Bay near Gulf Shores, Alabama, United States. Built to guard the bay's entrance, it became a Confederate position during the Civil War and supported the defence of Mobile against Union naval operations. Union forces captured the fort in August 1864 after Admiral David Farragut's attack on Mobile Bay, and its surviving works illustrate the coastal fortification methods of the period.
