Where is Hevonlinna in Finland?

Hevonlinna is an esker and recreation area near the border of Koski Tl and Loimaa in Finland Proper. The outdoor center is at Huovintie 215 in Koski Tl, near Mellilä.

How did the Hevonlinna esker form?

Hevonlinna was formed by sand and gravel deposited by meltwater flowing beneath the retreating Scandinavian ice sheet. It is therefore a glacial ridge rather than a bedrock mountain.

Why is Hevonlinna geologically important?

A regional geological survey classifies Hevonlinna as a valuable esker area of about 191 hectares. The ridge rises to roughly 125 metres above sea level and includes an ancient shoreline scarp, beach ridges, boulders, and rocky ground.

What can visitors do at Hevonlinna?

The outdoor center has trails, fitness stairs, a lookout tower, ski routes in winter, and a 24-hole disc-golf course. The municipality notes that Hevonlinna Lake does not have a public swimming beach.
