Patterson

The Patterson is an uneven bars dismount named after American gymnast Carly Patterson. It consists of a double Arabian—a double salto with a half-twist—performed in a piked position, and it is classified in the FIG Code of Points under the uneven bars skill table.

Carly Patterson used the element during the 2004 Athens Olympics, where she won the all-around gold medal. The skill was subsequently named after her in the FIG Code of Points, following the convention of naming skills after the gymnast who first performs them at a major international competition.

A double Arabian is a double salto (two rotations) with a half-twist, typically initiated from a backward takeoff with the gymnast rotating forward. In the Patterson dismount, it is performed in a piked body position, increasing its difficulty value.

The difficulty rating of the Patterson in the FIG Code of Points has changed over time as the code has been revised, but it has historically been rated as a high-difficulty bars dismount.
