Seitz (Bars)

The Seitz is named after German gymnast Elisabeth Seitz, a multiple European champion and one of Germany's most accomplished gymnasts. In gymnastics, skills are officially named after the first gymnast to successfully perform them at a World Championship or Olympic Games.

The Seitz on uneven bars is a bar transition element that moves the gymnast between the low and high bars with an additional half-turn rotation component. It requires precise timing and significant upper-body strength to execute cleanly.

Under FIG (Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique) rules, a skill is named after the gymnast who first successfully performs it at either the World Championships or the Olympic Games. The skill must be of sufficient difficulty and originality to be formally added to the Code of Points.

Elisabeth Seitz continued competing at the elite level into the 2020s, representing Germany at multiple Olympic Games including Tokyo 2020. She has won multiple medals at the European Championships, particularly on the uneven bars where her eponymous skill is performed.
