SS Sirio

description SS Sirio Overview

SS Sirio was an Italian passenger steamship operated by Navigazione Generale Italiana on routes carrying travelers and emigrants between Europe and South America. On 4 August 1906, it struck rocks near Cape Palos on Spain's Mediterranean coast and foundered. Several hundred people died, although contemporary reports differ on the exact toll, and local fishermen and nearby vessels participated in rescuing survivors from the wreck.
