Tejen River

description Tejen River Overview

The Tejen River, also called the Hari Rud or Harirud, is a transboundary river that rises in central Afghanistan and flows west and north through Afghanistan toward Iran and Turkmenistan. Parts of its lower course form borders between Afghanistan and Iran and between Iran and Turkmenistan; in Turkmenistan it is known as the Tejen before disappearing in or near the Karakum Desert. The river supports irrigation and settlements, including the agricultural area around Herat and the Tejen oasis.
