description Kilchurn Castle Overview
Kilchurn Castle is a ruined fortress on Loch Awe in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. Sir Colin Campbell of Glenorchy established its earliest tower house in the 15th century, and successive generations of the Campbell family enlarged the site with residential ranges and defensive works. Changes in the loch's water level have left it on a peninsula rather than the island it originally occupied, and the roofless remains are preserved as a historic monument.
