Back Flip (Back Somersault)

description Back Flip (Back Somersault) Overview

A back flip, also called a back somersault, is an acrobatic skill in which the performer leaves the ground and rotates backward through one complete revolution before landing. In gymnastics, the skill appears in floor exercise and can also be incorporated into balance beam routines. The performer must generate backward rotation while controlling body shape and opening for the landing. Variations may change the body position or add twists, but the basic movement is a single backward rotation.
