Surah silk is a soft, lightweight silk fabric woven in a twill structure, which gives its surface a subtle diagonal rib and a smooth drape. The term is associated with Surat in India, an important historical center of textile production and trade. Often printed with small repeating designs or woven in solid colors, surah has traditionally been used for neckties, scarves, dresses, blouses, linings, and other garments requiring supple but closely woven material.
