Are lyocell and Tencel the same fabric?
Lyocell is the generic fiber category, while TENCEL is a brand used by the Austrian manufacturer Lenzing for certain lyocell and modal fibers. A garment can therefore contain lyocell without using Lenzing's TENCEL-branded material.
Does lyocell shrink in the washing machine?
Lyocell can shrink or distort when exposed to excessive heat, especially if the fabric has not been stabilized or is blended with other fibers. Following the garment label and using a cool, gentle wash helps protect its shape and smooth surface.
Why is Tencel lyocell described as more sustainable than viscose?
Lyocell production uses an amine oxide solvent in a system designed to recover and reuse most of that solvent. Conventional viscose uses a different chemical process, so the environmental result depends on the manufacturer, wood source, and wastewater controls.
Is lyocell breathable enough for sheets and summer clothing?
